Pastoral Assistant – Barnet

Milk Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Barnet to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Assistant to join their pastoral support team. This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and proactive Pastoral Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people with their wellbeing, attendance, behaviour and personal development.

The successful Pastoral Assistant will play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, promoting positive engagement and ensuring every pupil feels supported throughout their educational journey. The school places a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, safeguarding and creating a positive culture where all learners can thrive.

The Role:

• Working as a Pastoral Assistant to support students with attendance, behaviour and wellbeing
• Providing 1:1 and small-group interventions for students requiring additional support
• Building positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and personal development
• Supporting students who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural challenges
• Monitoring attendance, punctuality and student welfare
• Liaising with teaching staff, families and external agencies where appropriate
• Assisting with safeguarding procedures and pastoral initiatives
• Promoting positive behaviour and supporting students to achieve their full potential

The Ideal Candidate:

• Previous experience as a Pastoral Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor, Youth Worker or Teaching Assistant
• Experience working with secondary-aged students
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
• Patient, resilient and empathetic approach
• Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
• Passion for supporting young people to succeed

Essential Requirements:

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Right to Work in the UK
