Location: West London
Rate: £37 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 6-month ongoing contract
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 to 2 days per week in the office

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Accountant to join a busy Finance team within a Local Authority in West London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with recent local authority experience to support key financial functions, including budget preparation, budget monitoring, year-end accounts and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage revenue and capital budgets for allocated service areas.
• Carry out budget monitoring and provide accurate financial forecasts.
• Support the year-end close-down process and production of final accounts.
• Review and identify savings opportunities, providing financial analysis and recommendations.
• Provide financial advice and support to budget holders and senior managers.
• Prepare financial reports, business cases and management information.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards and council policies.
• Analyse financial data and identify trends to support decision-making.
• Support the continuous improvement of financial processes and controls.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation to deliver high-quality financial services.

About You

• Recent Local Authority finance experience is essential.
• Experience preparing budgets, monitoring expenditure and closing accounts.
• Experience identifying and reviewing savings opportunities.
• Knowledge of local government finance, financial regulations and accounting practices.
• Experience using the IBC Financial System is highly desirable.
• Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
