About the role

Marine Field Service Engineer (214jc) – Southampton – Circa £45k + OT + Benefits

Marine Turbochargers | Southampton | Worldwide Travel

Travel: Approximately 70% international travel

Calling All Royal Navy Marine Engineers

Are you leaving the Royal Navy, or have you already transitioned into civilian life?

Have you spent your career maintaining or overhauling marine diesel engines and turbochargers aboard frigates, destroyers, auxiliaries or submarines?

If you’ve worked on civilian ABB/Accelleron, MAN or Mitsubishi (MET) turbochargers or Royal Navy equivalent, this could be an outstanding opportunity to build a long-term civilian career with a global marine engineering organisation.

The Role

You’ll become part of a specialist engineering team responsible for servicing, repairing and overhauling marine exhaust gas turbochargers on commercial vessels and land-based power generation equipment around the world, and you will be part of a team of 5 based in the UK with a further 5 based in Holland and Malta

No two weeks are the same.

You’ll travel internationally, solve technical problems, work alongside experienced engineers and help minimise downtime for customers operating some of the world’s largest marine engines.

Approximately 70% of your time will be spent travelling worldwide, with the remainder based at the Southampton workshop.

Because of this, applicants must live within a reasonable daily commuting distance of Southampton.

Your Responsibilities

  • Service, inspect and overhaul marine exhaust gas turbochargers.
  • Carry out fault diagnosis and repairs both onboard vessels and within the workshop.
  • Use precision measuring equipment and record engineering data.
  • Produce technical reports following completion of work.
  • Work safely both independently and as part of an international engineering team.
  • Deliver excellent customer service whilst representing the company worldwide.

Ideal Military Background

We’re particularly keen to hear from former Royal Navy personnel who have experience working on:

  • Marine propulsion systems
  • Diesel engines
  • Turbochargers
  • Ship engineering departments
  • Planned maintenance systems
  • Defect diagnosis and rectification
  • Marine mechanical engineering

Experience working on turbochargers manufactured by ABB / Accelleron, MAN, and/or Mitsubishi MET would be highly advantageous.

We’re Looking For

  • Marine engineering experience (Royal Navy or commercial)
  • Hands-on turbocharger maintenance experience
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel internationally for around 70% of the year

In Return you’ll receive, competitive salary circa £45k , Paid overtime, Company vehicle and mobile phone, tools, PPE and uniform, Private pension, Employee Health Plan’ 22 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays and on-site parking as well as extensive product training and long-term career opportunities within an international business

Why This Role Suits Royal Navy Engineers

Royal Navy Marine Engineers already possess many of the skills this employer values:

  • Working on complex marine propulsion systems
  • Maintaining critical equipment under pressure
  • Diagnosing faults quickly
  • Following engineering procedures precisely
  • Working safely around rotating machinery
  • Travelling worldwide at short notice
  • Delivering high standards of engineering wherever required

If you’ve maintained marine engines during your Naval career, you’ll already understand the pace, responsibility and technical challenges this position offers.
