About the role

We are seeking an empathetic, patient, and creative SEN Tutor to deliver a highly personalized, low-demand 1:1 learning program for a bright Year 9 student in the Pocklington area.

Due to prolonged non-attendance and severe anxiety, the student requires a slow, therapeutically informed re-engagement with education. The initial focus will be entirely on building trust, emotional readiness, and functional literacy/numeracy skills rather than formal academic targets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver short, manageable, interest-led sessions (focused on science, nature, animals, and maths).

  • Implement a low-arousal, low-demand approach to reduce pressure and anxiety.

  • Scaffold literacy and early writing using creative, alternative methods (visuals, technology, discussion) without pushing formal tasks before the student is ready.

  • Maintain strong consistency, predictable routines, and patience during session transitions.

Essential Criteria:
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience supporting learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), sensory sensitivities, and emotional regulation needs.

  • Experience delivering early/foundational literacy skills and alternative recording methods.

  • Ability to build trust and attunement slowly without rushing rapport.

  • Resilience, flexibility, and a warm, low-pressure approach.

Desirable Criteria:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent SEN teaching experience.

  • Background in trauma-informed or low-demand educational practices.

To Apply:

If you are passionate about helping disengaged young people re-connect with learning in a flexible, child-centered environment, please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant SEN experience.
