Team Leader - Rolling Stock Maintenance Job Type: 2-Year Fixed-Term Contract Salary: offering up to £60,000 per annum Location: Allerton, LiverpoolAre you an experienced engineering professional ready to take the next step into a leadership role? We are recruiting on behalf of a leading client within the rail rolling stock industry for an experienced Team Leader to join a major rolling stock maintenance programme on a 2-year fixed-term contract, offering a salary of up to £60,000 per annum.This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of skilled technicians responsible for maintaining and fault-finding on a modern passenger train fleet. Youll play a vital role in ensuring fleet reliability, maximising train availability, and delivering the highest standards of safety and quality.The Role As Team Leader, you will provide day-to-day supervision and technical support to a team of maintenance technicians while remaining hands-on with fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance activities. Working closely with the customer and wider engineering teams, you will help plan and coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced operational environment.Key Responsibilities Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of skilled maintenance technicians. Provide technical guidance and support during fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance activities. Carry out fault finding and root cause analysis across a wide range of train systems. Use electrical schematics, diagnostic software, and specialist testing and measuring equipment to identify and resolve faults. Plan, organise, and oversee warranty and corrective repair activities. Liaise with customers and operational stakeholders to ensure fleet availability and reliability targets are achieved. Prioritise maintenance activities, ensuring safety-critical defects are addressed promptly. Monitor technician performance and conduct competency assessments to maintain high engineering standards. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company procedures, safety legislation, and quality requirements. Promote a strong safety culture and encourage continuous improvement across the team.Systems Youll Be Working On You will be expected to provide technical leadership and support across a variety of complex train systems, including: Traction and braking systems High-voltage electrical systems Diesel engines and transmissions Passenger access door systems Passenger Information Systems (PIS), Public Address (PA), and CCTV HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS) High-pressure pneumatic systems Electrical wiring, fault diagnosis, and associated mechanical and electrical componentsAbout You To be successful in this role, youll have a strong technical background combined with proven leadership or supervisory experience within a maintenance environment.Essential Skills & Experience NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline. Significant post-qualification engineering experience. Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical and mechanical systems. Experience using electrical schematics, diagnostic software, and specialist test and measurement equipment. Ability to interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematic diagrams. Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or leading engineering teams. Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills. Full UK Driving Licence.
