As the authority for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine capability, the Submarine Directorate oversees one of the most complex and critical elements of UK defence. Covering everything from in‑service management to long‑term fleet modernisation, the directorate ensures the Submarine Flotilla remains safe, reliable, and ready to meet national security requirements.
You'll be based at HMNB Clyde, home to the UK Submarine Service. It sustains the nation’s continuous at-sea deterrent and supports the Royal Navy’s fleet of nuclear-powered submarines. As a centre of excellence for submarine operations, Clyde plays a critical role in national security and global stability.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
With significant investment underway at HMNB Clyde to prepare for the arrival of two new classes of submarine and future military capabilities, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the operational effectiveness and wellbeing of Royal Navy personnel. As the military population at HMNB Clyde continues to grow, this role is critical in ensuring that accommodation provision keeps pace with demand and reflects modern standards of living.
As the Accommodation and Strategy Plans Lead you will be responsible for developing and delivering both short- and long-term plans to improve the quality, availability and modernisation of lived accommodation across the site. You will lead the coordination and oversight of accommodation related projects, ensuring that the evolving needs of the base population are met effective and efficiently.
What you will be doing:
- Implement the changes required from the new accommodation model and UK Armed Forces Defence Accommodation Strategy at HMNB Clyde.
- Ensure compliance with Defence Minimum Standards for accommodation and that living standards are met and reflect societal norms.
- Inform, develop, and lead accommodation improvement plans for the quality of HMNB Clyde’s living accommodation.
- Develop a strategy and plan to achieve maximum availability of onsite living accommodation and iterate as the population grows.
- Ensuring accommodation provision keeps pace with the growing military population and meets modern standards of living.
- Supporting improvements to the quality, availability, and modernisation of lived accommodation across the site.
- Acting as the Intelligent Customer, representing user needs and ensuring delivery partners meet required standards.
- Serving as the key interface between Defence infrastructure stakeholders and accommodation service providers.
- Shaping and implementing changes to accommodation strategy in line with evolving Defence policy and operational requirements.
- Ensuring that accommodation supports the health, wellbeing, and operational readiness of Service personnel.
- Delivering tangible improvements to the lived experience of personnel through planning and project oversight.
- Collaborate with colleagues and teams across HMNB Clyde on local housing matters and reduce excess empty properties.
- Act as the focal point for leasing agreements, encroachments, contract monitoring activity and development of future accommodation
- Increase engagement with personnel and their families to inform an approach to accommodation that
reflects their current and future needs and preferences. - Use data to facilitate accurate forecasting of accommodation need, responding to changes in demand and supply and informing future investment.
- Inform the requirements for future charging review and facilities management contracts.
