School Welfare Officer
Location: Southall, Ealing, West London
Contract: Initially September 2026 - October 2026 (with the potential to become permanent)
Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only (plus INSET days if required)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
School Welfare Officer Required - Secondary School in Southall, Ealing We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Welfare Officer to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Southall, Ealing. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced welfare professional who is passionate about supporting young people and promoting their health, wellbeing, and attendance within a school environment.
The position will initially be offered from September 2026 through to October 2026, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first aid and medical support to students and staff throughout the school day.
    • Maintain accurate records of accidents, injuries, illnesses, and medications administered.
    • Support students with medical conditions and individual healthcare plans.
    • Liaise with parents/carers regarding student welfare, medical needs, and wellbeing concerns.
    • Monitor and support student attendance and punctuality where required.
    • Work closely with pastoral, safeguarding, and senior leadership teams to ensure students receive appropriate support.
    • Promote student wellbeing and contribute to a safe and supportive school environment.
    • Ensure all welfare and medical provision complies with school policies and statutory guidance.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a School Welfare Officer, Medical Officer, Attendance & Welfare Officer, or similar role within a school setting.
    • Current First Aid qualification (Paediatric First Aid, First Aid at Work, or equivalent).
    • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with medical incidents and sensitive situations.
    • Good organisational and administrative skills, including maintaining confidential records.
    • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable
  • Experience working within a secondary school environment.
    • Knowledge of school MIS systems such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom.
    • Mental Health First Aid training.
