Job summary

Robson Resilience Centre Crickhowell (RRCC) is the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) largest Adventurous Training Centre, providing a diverse programme of outdoor activities designed to develop leadership, physical and mental resilience, fortitude, and robustness through authentic and challenging experiences. The Centre delivers Adventurous Training both within the UK and overseas as part of the service offer available to all RAF personnel. Supporting more than 4,500 trainees annually, RRCC operates in a fast-paced environment, maintaining consistently high standards of training delivery. To facilitate this output, the Centre manages a substantial inventory of specialist outdoor equipment and clothing, overseen by a dedicated team of civilian and military staff.

The Technical Storekeeper plays a key role in supporting the Stores Supervisor and MT Manager with the day-to-day operation of a busy Adventurous Training store. The post-holder is responsible for the issue, receipt, control, and management of equipment and kit essential to the delivery of training activities.

This is a customer-facing position requiring the safe, efficient, and effective management of equipment, including maintaining accurate records and ensuring assets are fit for purpose. You will undertake technical maintenance on a variety of specialist equipment, including mountain bikes and canoes, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and standard operating procedures. Through these responsibilities, you will help deliver a reliable, professional, and high-quality service in support of the Centre’s training objectives.

Job description

The post holder will carry out day-to-day duties, as directed by line management, to support the efficient and effective operation of the Adventurous Training store and ensure the provision of a high-quality service to staff and students.

General Store Duties

Equipment Storage

Manage the safe and appropriate storage of clothing, equipment, and specialist assets in accordance with relevant health and safety requirements. Maintain storage facilities to a professional standard, ensuring a safe, organised, and efficient working environment.

Equipment Compliance

Support the administration and maintenance of PPE records and technical equipment logs for mountain biking, water sports, caving, climbing, and high ropes activities. Ensure all records are accurate, current, and compliant with relevant policy and procedures.

Student Equipment

Issue and receive clothing and equipment for students attending RRCC courses. Provide guidance on the correct use and care of equipment and ensure all transactions are appropriately documented in student loan records.

Staff Equipment

Issue and receive clothing and equipment for staff members as required. Maintain accurate equipment loan records and ensure accountability for all issued assets.

Equipment Logs

Maintain daily equipment usage, inspection, and maintenance records, promptly reporting defects, damage, losses, or other concerns to line management.

Inventory Stock

Monitor stock levels and notify line management of replenishment requirements in a timely manner to ensure continuity of service and equipment availability.

Equipment Disposal& Asset Management

Ensure unserviceable or obsolete equipment is recorded in accordance with relevant procedures. Ensure all losses, write-offs, and disposals are correctly documented and supported by a clear audit trail.

Inventory Assurance

Assist inventory holders in undertaking routine stocktaking activities, audits, and inventory checks to ensure accountability and accuracy of records.

Mountain Bike Maintenance

Under the direction of line management, maintain and manage a fleet of approximately 90 mountain bikes. Ensure all bikes are inspected, serviced, and repaired to an appropriate standard, maintaining them in a safe and operational condition. Provide advice and support to the Senior Flight Sergeant regarding the procurement of specialist mountain bikes, components, and associated equipment.

Canoe Maintenance

Under the direction of line management, maintain and manage a fleet of approximately 30 canoes. Carry out inspections, repairs, and routine maintenance in a timely and professional manner, ensuring equipment remains safe, serviceable, and fit for purpose. Advise the Senior Storekeeper when replacement equipment or components are required.

Additional Duties

  • Driving duties in support of Centre activities.
  • Conducting security and site safety checks as required.
  • Completing administrative tasks associated with stores operations.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties necessary to support the effective delivery of Adventurous Training stores services and Centre operations.

Training & Development

We are committed to providing you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in your role. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided, along with role-specific technical training during the induction period. Training may be delivered both remotely and at external locations, and travel may occasionally be required.

Flexible Working

Flexible working arrangements are available for this position, subject to line manager approval and operational requirements. Employees are contracted to work 37 hours per week, which may be worked flexibly within the Centre's operating hours of 07:00 to 19:00.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday; however, there may be occasions when attendance is required outside these hours, including weekends, to support operational requirements. For example, Sunday working may occasionally be required to facilitate the issue of equipment to RAF personnel attending training activities.

Essential Requirements:
