Maintenance Operative/Handyman

We operate across our main production premises in Inverness and support additional sites as required, ensuring our facilities and machinery run efficiently, safely, and reliably. This is a varied role with genuine ownership - if something needs fixing, you'll be at the heart of getting it back to working order.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure facilities and machinery operate efficiently and safely by carrying out repairs, maintenance, inspections, and cleaning as required.
  • Respond to faults quickly and efficiently, diagnosing issues and rectifying problems to minimise downtime.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance across production equipment and site infrastructure.
  • Carry out inspections to identify defects, wear, and potential safety or performance issues.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to complete maintenance tasks to a high standard.
  • Undertake basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work within scope of competence.
  • Work across multiple sites when required, supporting maintenance needs beyond the main production premises.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including proper housekeeping during and after maintenance activities.
  • Work effectively with contractors and internal staff, communicating clearly to coordinate tasks and updates.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical knowledge: Proficiency using hand tools and power tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Ability to understand machinery and apply practical troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic multi-trade knowledge: Competence in basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tasks.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to analyse issues, identify defects, and determine effective solutions.
  • Physical capability: Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work with contractors and staff.
  • Driving licence: Full driving licence (required for site call-outs and travel between locations).
  • Working hours flexibility: Daytime hours with occasional evening call-outs in the event of machinery breakdowns.
