Traffic Engineer

Overview

A London Local Authority is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join its Streetscene service within the Neighbourhoods directorate. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team delivering traffic and transport schemes across a complex urban environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of a comprehensive traffic and transport engineering service
• Assist in the design, consultation, and implementation of traffic schemes, with the opportunity to lead projects at higher grades
• Prepare technical drawings, reports, and consultation materials
• Undertake and/or lead site surveys, traffic surveys, and data collection activities
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and best practice guidance
• Contribute to the preparation of committee reports and provide professional advice
• Engage with residents, stakeholders, and statutory bodies as part of consultation processes
• Support or lead correspondence and discussions with members of the public and internal stakeholders
• Ensure all work is delivered in line with quality standards, service objectives, and performance targets

About You

• Experience in traffic engineering within an urban/local authority environment
• Strong understanding of relevant traffic management legislation and policies
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and transport data
• Experience delivering or supporting traffic schemes from design through to implementation
• Excellent written communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder correspondence
• Ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including confidence in public and committee settings
• Working towards or eligible for membership of a relevant professional body
