Data & AI Governance SMELocation: Remote (Occasional travel to their London office) Contract: Inside IR35 Day rate: Up to £700 per day Duration: 6 months Start date: ASAP Key words: Data, AI, Governance SME, policy, compliance, AI Engineering workflows.Our Client require a Data & AI Governance SME to lead data classification, AI policy alignment, Trade Secret handling, data ingestion and retention control remediation for the AI Engineering environment. The successful contractor will work with Legal, data owners, AI Engineering, security, GRC and technical remediation specialists to define practical governance rules and evidence for restricted data, AI usage and data lifecycle controls. This is a delivery-oriented governance role. Candidates must be able to turn policy expectations into usable engineering, data handling and evidence requirements.Assignment Objectives - Define and operationalise data classification and handling rules for AI Engineering systems. - Clarify Trade Secret, restricted data and sensitive technical data handling requirements. - Align AI Engineering practices with AI policy, data governance and enterprise GRC expectations. - Define evidence for data ingestion, retention, masking, access, disposal and restricted-data handling controls. - Work with software engineers, AppSec / DevSecOps and MLOps engineers to embed governance requirements into implementation work. - Support control-owner sign-off, residual-risk decisions and BAU handover for recurring data and AI governance controls. Key Skills - Significant experience in data governance, information governance, AI governance, privacy, risk or compliance roles in enterprise environments. - Experience defining data classification, data handling, retention, ingestion, restricted-data and sensitive information controls. - Experience working with Legal, GRC, security, data owners and technical delivery teams to operationalise governance requirements. - Strong understanding of AI governance issues, including model input / output handling, acceptable use, data lineage, retention and evidence requirements. - Experience translating policy or control requirements into practical backlog items, acceptance criteria and evidence artefacts. - Working knowledge of NIST-style controls, SOC 2, ISO 27001 and enterprise GRC expectations. - Experience with Trade Secret, confidential or sensitive technical data handling. - Strong documentation skills for standards, decision records, evidence packs and BAU handover notes.
