Electrical Design Engineer

Overview

Atkins Search are currently recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a Mechanical and Electrical Construction Consultancy based in Nottingham with hybrid working available.

Please note – if you are an Electrical Engineer with 2-5 years’ experience, we strongly encourage you to apply for this role. There are numerous levels available for the right candidate.

Client

My client is a dynamic chartered building services engineering consultancy specialising in mechanical and electrical (M&E) design and project management. They work across a broad spectrum of sectors from education, hotels, and sports facilities to commercial, leisure, and industrial developments.

Whether it’s thermal modelling, BIM, Revit, renewable energy, lighting design, BREEAM support, or daylighting, their expertise spans it all!

Role

As the Electrical Design Engineer, you will work with the Senior Management team to deliver highly efficient building services design across a variety of sectors such as education, residential, bespoke houses, care homes, healthcare, offices, leisure and industrial units across the East Midlands.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and coordination of electrical systems, including small power, lighting, fire alarm systems, data & communications, intruder alarms, CCTV, access control, and more
Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, working closely with mechanical engineers, architects, contractors, and clients
Utilise advanced modelling tools like Revit, dynamic thermal simulations, BIM Level II workflows, and sustainability methodologies such as Passivhaus and BREEAM
Contribute to projects that prioritise energy efficiency and deliver exceptional service from concept to completion
Work across diverse sectors and sites across the East Midlands

The ideal candidate for this Electrical Design Engineer vacancy will possess the following:

Qualified (or near-qualified) Electrical Design Engineer with M&E experience—bonus if you’re MCIBSE or working towards chartership
Previous experience operating as an Electrical Design Engineer on behalf of a consultancy
Hold 2 – 5 years’ experience of Electrical Design
Skilled in electrical systems design: power, lighting, fire alarms, security, data/communications, etc
Fluent in BIM (Revit) and familiar with sustainable/low-carbon engineering practices
Comfortable with project coordination, stakeholder communication, and engineering software workflows
Based in or willing to work in the Nottingham/East Midlands area
