This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive team where you'll play a key role in managing projects from inception through to completion, working with a wide range of private and public sector clients. You'll have the opportunity to lead projects, mentor junior team members and contribute to the continued growth of a successful consultancy.

The Role

As a Senior Transport Planner, you'll be responsible for managing multiple transport planning projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and to a high technical standard. You'll work closely with clients, planning authorities and multidisciplinary project teams to provide practical transport solutions that support a variety of residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing transport planning projects throughout the planning and development process.
  • Producing, reviewing and approving technical documents including Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Technical Notes and supporting planning reports.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical drawings such as access layouts, visibility splays, junction designs and vehicle tracking plans.
  • Using industry-standard transport modelling software to assess traffic generation, distribution and highway impacts.
  • Developing evidence for planning appeals, including Statements of Case and Statements of Common Ground.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities, developers and other project stakeholders.
  • Attending client meetings, public consultation events, design team meetings and discussions with Local Highway Authorities.
  • Preparing fee proposals, quotations and tender submissions to support business development.
  • Providing guidance, mentoring and technical support to junior members of the transport planning team.
  • Supporting Directors with project delivery, resource planning and the ongoing development of the transport planning service.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or another relevant discipline.
  • Around five years or more of transport planning experience within a consultancy environment.
  • Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional institution.
  • A strong understanding of UK transport planning policy, guidance and design standards.
  • Experience preparing technical reports to support planning applications.
  • Knowledge of transport modelling software and traffic forecasting methodologies.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills with confidence liaising with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior colleagues would be advantageous.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Clear opportunities for career progression and professional development.
  • Support towards professional membership and continued training.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of high-profile and technically interesting projects.
  • A collaborative, friendly and supportive working environment.
  • Company pension and additional employee benefits.
