Highway Design Engineer / Senior Highway Design Engineer

Location: Yate, Bristol (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + Bonus + Benefits

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Design Engineer to join a growing, multidisciplinary consultancy based in Yate. Working within a well-established highways team, you will play a key role in the delivery of a wide range of highway infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients.

This position would suit a technically strong designer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, mentoring junior engineers, and working collaboratively within a dynamic consultancy environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver a variety of highway infrastructure projects.
• Produce detailed highway designs using Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Work on projects including:
  • Section 278 schemes
  • Highway improvement projects
  • Access and infrastructure schemes associated with development projects
• Lead and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Ensure projects are delivered to programme, budget, and quality standards.
• Contribute to project planning, technical reviews, and design development.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years' UK experience within highway design.
• Strong consultancy background preferred.
• Proven experience delivering highway design projects.
• Proficient user of Autodesk Civil 3D (essential).
• Good understanding of UK highway design standards and approvals processes.
• Ability to work independently while supporting and developing junior team members.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Highway drainage design experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
