About the role
Our client, a leading manufacturer with a strong reputation for innovation and operational excellence, is seeking an experienced Senior Production Engineer to join their growing team.
This is a key position focused on driving manufacturing performance, supporting new product introduction, and leading continuous improvement initiatives across the production environment. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in optimising processes, improving productivity, reducing waste, and ensuring products are manufactured efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide production engineering support across manufacturing departments and production cells.
- Lead continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to enhance quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance.
- Develop, implement, and optimise manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and production methods.
- Support new product introduction activities, ensuring Design for Manufacture principles are embedded from concept through to production.
- Identify manufacturing requirements for new and existing products and establish efficient production processes.
- Review engineering drawings, technical documentation, and build-to-print packages to ensure manufacturability and production readiness.
- Investigate manufacturing issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Produce and maintain shop floor process documentation, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and safe systems of work.
- Lead process improvement activities including PFMEA, mistake-proofing initiatives, and waste reduction programmes.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and production personnel.
- Support non-conformance investigations and drive timely resolution of manufacturing challenges.
- Work closely with planning, quality, engineering, and operations teams to achieve departmental and business objectives.
- Identify and implement process and technology improvements that deliver measurable business benefits.
- Monitor production performance and KPI data, recommending improvements where required.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience within a manufacturing or production engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, and process optimisation techniques.
- Experience with CAD software and interpretation of engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles and new product introduction processes.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to develop process documentation, work instructions, and manufacturing standards.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems would be advantageous.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
