About the role
Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit enthusiastic, compassionate, and dedicated Psychology Graduates to support children within Primary Schools from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology and are looking to build on the knowledge and practical experience gained throughout their degree. Whether you’ve supported children through university placements, research projects, mentoring, volunteering, or practical work within educational or child-focused settings, we’d love to hear from you.
We have a range of long-term, full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
As a Psychology Graduate, you’ll work alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs, and SEND professionals to support pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning while making a genuine difference to their education, wellbeing, and personal development. This role provides invaluable experience for graduates looking to progress into careers such as Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, Mental Health, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Social Work, or Teaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Support children with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, learning difficulties, and other additional needs.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, confidence, and independence.
- Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement personalised learning plans and EHCP targets.
- Deliver targeted learning, behaviour, and wellbeing interventions to support pupil progress.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social development.
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
- Encourage positive behaviour and promote independence within the classroom.
- Assist with classroom activities and learning support throughout the school day.
- Monitor and record pupil progress where appropriate.
- Assist with personal care where required.
- Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- A completed undergraduate degree in Psychology is essential.
- Experience supporting children or young people through university placements, voluntary work, mentoring, research projects, tutoring, youth work, or previous employment is highly desirable.
- An understanding of SEND, Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, and learning differences is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, resilient, and caring approach.
- Strong organisational and teamwork skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
- Passion for supporting children’s learning, development, and wellbeing.
- A genuine interest in pursuing a career within Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, Mental Health, Therapy Services, or Education.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
