About the role
Location: Glasgow – Site Based
On behalf of our Client, we are seeking experienced Sheet Metal Workers/ Light Fabricators/ Welders to support the construction of world-leading naval ships.
Main Duties
As a Sheet Metal Worker, your responsibilities will include:
- Fabricating, assembling, and installing sections of naval vessels
- Manufacturing and installing sheet metal furniture, including lockers, cabinets, and storage modules
- Fabricating and installing furniture and ventilation systems
- Measuring, marking out, cutting, shaping, and assembling metal components using a range of hand and power tools
- Fitting and securing fabricated components accurately
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Working safely in line with site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements
- Maintaining high-quality standards throughout all fabrication activities
- Producing accurate, well-finished work that meets required engineering standards and customer expectations
Experience and Skills Required
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in shipbuilding, light fabrication, heavy fabrication, or a similar manufacturing/construction environment
- Strong practical hand skills for manufacturing and installation activities
- The ability to understand and interpret manufacturing and installation drawings
- Experience using fabrication tools and equipment
- Knowledge of engineering standards and manufacturing processes
- A good understanding of health and safety procedures, COSHH requirements and workplace risk awareness
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- The flexibility to work in confined spaces and/or at height when required
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Modern Apprenticeship certificate or equivalent
Security Requirements
Please note that many roles are subject to security and export control restrictions. All applicants must, as a minimum, be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance. Many positions also require higher levels of National Security Vetting, where applicants typically need 5 to 10 years of continuous UK residency, depending on the required clearance level, to enable appropriate security checks to be completed.
