About the role

The Oaks Community Primary School

“We are Crew, not passengers.”

A message from the Headteacher

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to join The Oaks Community Primary School at an important point in our journey.

Our current Deputy Headteacher joined us, grew with us and has now successfully secured his first Headship. We are incredibly proud that The Oaks has been part of his leadership journey and we are now looking for the next person who wants to make a real difference as part of ours.

We are not simply looking for someone to fill a role. We are looking for someone who wants to belong to a school, invest in a community and help shape what comes next.

At The Oaks, we believe leadership is about people. It is about relationships, trust, high expectations and working together. Our staff, children and families are Crew — we support each other, challenge each other and achieve together.

Our expectations are simple but powerful:

Ready. Respectful. Responsible.

These values shape the way we learn, the way we lead and the way we treat each other every day.

About the role

We are looking for an inspirational Deputy Headteacher who is an excellent classroom practitioner and is excited by the opportunity to continue making a direct difference to children while also leading strategically across school.

Working closely alongside the Headteacher and wider Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key role in shaping the next chapter of The Oaks.

Together, you will help us continue to build a school where children achieve academically, develop personally and feel a true sense of belonging.

You will:

  • lead and model excellent teaching and learning
  • support the continued development of a rich, ambitious and inclusive curriculum
  • use assessment, evidence and professional curiosity to improve outcomes for all learners
  • contribute to whole-school improvement with clarity, energy and impact
  • support and develop colleagues through strong relationships and shared purpose
  • champion inclusion and ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed
  • strengthen relationships with families, partners and the wider community

You will be a visible leader who knows children as individuals, understands families and believes that schools have the power to change lives.

We are looking for someone who:

  • is an excellent teacher who inspires children and colleagues
  • has successful leadership experience and is ready for the next challenge
  • believes that inclusion, nurture and high expectations go hand in hand
  • understands how to improve outcomes while protecting creativity, curiosity and the joy of learning
  • can bring people together and lead positive change
  • communicates with honesty, warmth and clarity
  • sees leadership as service, not status
  • brings enthusiasm, resilience and a sense of humour
  • wants to be part of a Crew, not just a leadership team

What we can offer:

  • fantastic children who are proud of their school
  • a talented, supportive and committed staff Crew
  • a wider Senior Leadership Team who work together and value each other's strengths
  • a supportive governing body who share our ambition
  • strong community partnerships that enrich our curriculum and opportunities
  • the chance to influence the future direction of a school that is continuing to grow

The Oaks is a school with strong foundations, a clear vision and a community that cares deeply.

We want a Deputy Headteacher who will bring passion, positivity and commitment — someone ready to walk alongside us and help write the next chapter of our story.

If you believe that schools should be places where children feel they belong, adults feel valued and everyone works together as Crew, we would love to hear from you.

The Oaks is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will require the successful applicant to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS.

Walk arounds will take place on Tuesday 21st July at 2:30pm, Thursday 3rd September at 2:00pm and 4:00pm and Tuesday 8th September at 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Please call Cath McGuinness on [phone removed] to book onto a visit.
