About the role
Core Purpose of the Role
The Deputy Headteacher will provide outstanding operational leadership, working in close partnership with the Headteacher to secure the continuous improvement of the school. By managing day-to-day school systems, policies, and momentum, the Deputy Headteacher will enable the Headteacher to focus effectively on long-term strategic direction. The successful candidate will balance senior leadership with a two-day weekly teaching commitment, modelling classroom excellence and driving a shared, child-centred vision across the school.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership, Partnership & Strategic Alignment
- Co-pilot long-term strategy alongside the Headteacher to shape the future direction of the school.
- Translate overarching vision into measurable, actionable targets within the School Improvement Plan.
- Present strategic plans jointly to the Governing Body for approval, constructive scrutiny, and review.
- Act as a visible, collaborative leader who unifies staff behind the school's core mission and values.
- Energetic and enthusiastic leader possessing the strength of character to maintain a rigorous focus on school improvement.
- Improve Parental Engagement. Work with numerous outside agencies to benefit our families.
- Drive and champion the school’s broader community presence by leading high-profile events (e.g. May Fayre, concerts) and fostering strategic partnerships with LA Hub and cluster schools.
- Lead Professional for Educational Support Assessments.
2. Operational Management & Policy Control
- Lead daily school operations, ensuring efficient, calm, and safe day-to-day running of the school site.
- Create, review, and implement robust, child-centred whole-school policies that meet statutory requirements.
- Absorb operational pressures proactively, giving the Headteacher the necessary space for strategic oversight.
- Maintain high standards of pupil behaviour and well-being through consistent operational leadership.
- Effectively dealing with difficult conversations, when necessary, with all stakeholders.
3. Curriculum, Performance & Student Outcomes
- Analyse primary performance metrics and pupil data to pivot teaching strategies and elevate outcomes.
- Oversee Early Years and primary curriculum policies, ensuring they align with and support the broader school vision.
- Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning across the school, providing feedback and mentoring to staff.
- Work on developing best practice pedagogy across the school, from Nursery to Year 6.
4. Teaching Commitment & Modelling Excellence
- Fulfil a two-day weekly teaching commitment, maintaining an outstanding standard of primary practice.
- Model exemplary classroom teaching, formative assessment, and behaviour management for colleagues.
- Stay deeply connected to pupil progress and classroom realities through direct teaching experience.
- Actively contribute to the wider life of the school through events, concerts, and collaborative initiatives with our LA Hub and cluster schools.
