About the role

Senior Legal Counsel - Construction
Birmingham | Hybrid Working (3 Days Office / 2 Days Home)
£60K - £77K

A leading organisation delivering major, long-term programmes is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its established legal team.
This is a high-profile role for a commercially astute lawyer who enjoys operating at a strategic level, influencing complex procurement decisions, and partnering with senior leaders across a large organisation. You will be trusted to lead on some of the most significant commercial and contractual matters within the business while helping shape the development of the wider legal function.

The Opportunity
As Senior Legal Counsel, you will act as a key adviser on high-value procurements, contract management and commercial matters, supporting major programmes from procurement through to delivery and operation.
Working closely with executive stakeholders, procurement teams and project leaders, you will provide commercially focused legal guidance that enables successful outcomes while protecting the organisation's interests. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading legal support on complex, high-value procurement exercises and contract management matters.
    • Providing expert legal advice across a broad range of commercial issues, including construction contracts, intellectual property, insurance, information governance and operational matters.
    • Acting as a trusted adviser to senior business stakeholders and project teams.
    • Contributing to legal training, knowledge sharing and best-practice initiatives.
    • Managing relationships with external law firms where specialist expertise or additional capacity is required.
    • Overseeing legal budgets, performance, delivery quality and value for money.
About You
You will be a qualified solicitor with significant post-qualification experience gained either in-house, private practice, or a combination of both. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
  • Extensive experience advising on high-value commercial contracts and procurement projects.
    • Strong construction and infrastructure contracting expertise, ideally including NEC3 frameworks.
    • Demonstrable experience managing external legal advisers and associated budgets.
    • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the confidence to advise and influence senior leaders.
    • A practical, commercially focused approach to legal problem solving.
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to play a central role in the delivery of nationally significant programmes while working alongside senior decision-makers in a highly collaborative environment.
You'll join a respected legal team where your expertise will have genuine impact, with exposure to complex, high-value projects, excellent career development opportunities and the chance to shape legal strategy within a major organisation.
