About the role

Team Manager - Child Exploitation & Missing

Role: Team Manager

Team: Child Exploitation and Missing

Location: Wakefield Council

Pay Rate: £40.00 per hour

Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing

Are you an inspirational, resilient leader with a deep commitment to protecting vulnerable young people?

Wakefield Council is seeking a highly skilled Team Manager to take operational command of its specialized Child Exploitation and Missing Team. Offering a competitive rate of £40.00 per hour, this is a critical leadership role designed for a professional who thrives in a high-stakes safeguarding environment and knows how to drive multi-agency disruptions against contextual risks.

Key Responsibilities

As the Team Manager, you will lead a dedicated squad of specialists to intercept risk, disrupt exploiters, and safeguard children at risk of extra-familial harm:

  • Operational Leadership: Manage the daily operations of the Child Exploitation and Missing team, ensuring high-quality, trauma-informed intervention strategies are delivered.

  • Multi-Agency Disruption: Work at the forefront of partnership working, collaborating closely with West Yorkshire Police, health partners, education providers, and the voluntary sector to map and disrupt exploitation networks.

  • Risk Management: Oversee complex, high-risk cases involving Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE), county lines, and persistent missing episodes.

  • Performance & Quality Assurance: Lead on case directions, sign off robust risk assessments, conduct regular audits, and provide high-quality reflective supervision to your practitioners.

What We Need From You

To step into this specialist leadership slot, you must bring a solid track record in adolescent safeguarding:

  • The Essentials: A recognized Social Work qualification and an active registration with Social Work England.

  • Leadership Background: Proven experience operating at a Team Manager or Assistant Team Manager level within statutory Children's Services.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Deep, demonstrable knowledge of contextual safeguarding, child exploitation frameworks, tracking missing trends, and National Minimum Standards.

  • Decisive Judgment: The ability to make swift, defensible decisions under pressure to ensure child safety.

Why Choose Wakefield Council?
  • Premium Earning Power: A competitive hourly rate of £40.00 per hour.

  • A Focused Specialism: Step away from standard, generalized frontline workloads and focus your leadership energy entirely on a critical, rewarding safeguarding niche.

  • Hybrid Working: Benefit from modern, flexible working arrangements that allow you to balance office-based leadership presence with remote working.
